A chester with Pau Martinez: how to prepare successfully for the jump to TrialGP

This week we have invited Pau Martinez, World Champion 125to the Trialworld Cutter, where we talked to him about how a rider is forged from the lower categories of Trial, through the complex category of Trial 2 and what it is like to prepare to reach the level of demand of Trial GP.

Martinez started competing at a very young age, won the title of 125 world champion, the lowest category in the world championship at the age of 17 and since then he has not stopped growing.

The rider explains that when he started competing in the 125 World Championship “I started winning the first two races and this motivated me a lot and it is true that I also had pressure but the fact of winning compensated for it”, he confessed, that he works well with nerves since he believes that, “you can grow without winning or make a super good position”.

During the talk, the rider wanted to thank Suca, his backpacker, the Vertigo team, and his sponsors for their great help “they have supported me since I was a child, many people think that when you are world champion many doors open for you, but it is not like that” he explained.

As far as the bike is concerned, the rider currently rides a state-of-the-art Vertigo Nitro , which he sees as the perfect tool to win, according to him “the bike is very important to improve yourself and be able to be higher”.

OBJECTIVES for the 2022 season

The Vertigo rider explained that last year was very irregular “one day I was in 6th position and the next in 15th, the more regular you are the better”. For this reason, Pau’s goal for this new season is to be as consistent as possible, always in the highest positions we can : “I would love to make a Top 5 and a podium”, he confessed.

To prepare to move from Trial 2 to Trial GP, Pau trains with the best riders on the current scene, such as Jaime Busto and Gabriel Marcelli. With them, he expresses that “we train at their level, if I see that I can’t do it, we do another area, a little easier, but following the line”. Pau said that with all the help he has from the people around him , he would dare to compete in the GP category , although he sees it as very difficult to get a good position because there is a high level.

It has been a very interesting talk about how to build a pilot’s dream and the work plan of a great athlete like Pau Martínez.
