Jorge Casales was expelled from the competition in Italy: “They haven’t given me options to repeat the race”

Jorge Casales is having a start to the season to forget. And not exactly for technical reasons or lack of performance, but rather for accidental or unfortunate situations.

What happened during the Italian GP is, to say the least, strange.

Jorge took a PCR test on Wednesday along with the rest of the team and the result was negative. From that day until Saturday, the first day of the race, the Galician rider was always in the company of his team. However, in the PCR carried out by the organization on Saturday, the result of the test was positive, which is why the driver’s race was stopped at the halfway point of it, proceeding to his immediate disqualification and the obligation to remain confined to the hotel, without the possibility of participating in Sunday’s race. In other words, Jorge Casales leaves Italy with zero points to his credit.

The strangest thing about the situation is that the organization did not carry out a second test to confirm this result, and even more so when the entire team was negative in Saturday’s test.

GasGas’ Team Manager, Albert Cabestany, had this to say at the end of the weekend:Very much with Jorge it’s been really disappointing and really strange. He took his PCR test, like everyone else, on Saturday morning, so he would be ready to fly home after the race, and he was stopped during the first lap and told his test was positive. It’s odd because the team ran the tests and they came back negative on Wednesday; we’ve been together the whole time here in Italy, and the rest of the team is negative again.”

QUOTES jorge casales

Jorge Casales"On Saturday, at the end of the first lap of the Italian TrialGP, the organization stopped me and then told me that I was positive in COVID19... Knocking me out of the race. With no options to be able to do another PCR to confirm that it is not a false positive, we found my backpacker and I confined to the hotel in Italy to be able to perform another PCR. We are fine and do not have any symptoms. I'm very disappointed to have to retire from the race. It's one of those things that happens in life, one of those moments where the way we respond to a setback defines us as people. I am very grateful that my family and I are doing well and thank you for the support to the entire GasGas team."
