The new Trial World Championship multiplies the expense of the organisers

The 2020 Trial World Championship has not yet started, but as the dates progress, the uncertainty is even greater. The cancellation of the GPs of Japan, France, the Czech Republic and England has forced the calendar to be concentrated in just four races, which must be held in two days that can be scored independently.

The Spanish GP will be held in the León town of Pobladura de las Regueras, a modest town with a great trial tradition, but with only 193 inhabitants. The budget of the organizer, Titos Presa, amounted to €48,000 for the celebration of a GP planned for a single day. Now, the organisers, such as the Pobladura R Motoclub, must face a budget that must be multiplied to host the second day of competition. An increase that will fall solely on the shoulders of the organizers, who will try to minimize it through private sponsorships, something truly complicated due to the economic crisis.

To this point must be added the restrictions provided for the public. Let’s remember that in most GPs there is a ticket office to access the venue where the areas are located, but it is not yet known if there will be an audience, nor the maximum capacity allowed.
“Everything will be conditioned, of course, by the protocols of the health authorities and set by the Higher Sports Council (CSD) and measures will be taken to the maximum to avoid any type of risk, at the expense of how the pandemic evolves in the coming weeks,” Titos Presa told EFE.
In short, a few months before the start of the World Championship, the numbers proposed by the FIM for the celebration of the 2020 calendar do not add up to the organizers. We’ll see how this situation evolves.
