2017 Sherco ST 300 Review

Under an aesthetic and concept with hardly any variations compared to the 2016 model, the new
Sherco Trial 2017
range incorporates some long-awaited and necessary novelties in its mechanics to improve its overall performance. We are referring especially to the new diaphragm clutch, which is joined by other changes in the electronics that the
Sherco ST Factory 2016
already anticipated.

SLIGHT MODIFICATIONS TO THE CHASSIS

The 2017 Sherco ST maintains the chassis made of chrome-molybdenum steel with a combination of tubes and plated parts, receiving reinforcements in the most critical areas. As in the previous edition, we find the fuel tank at the front of the bike, this time with small modifications in its design and materials with the aim of reducing vibrations and friction with the chassis.

A major improvement on the 2017 model is the redesign of the air filter box in search of greater capacity. In addition, the assembly receives a motor cover plate with new shapes.
As for the design of the stickers, Sherco continues with blue as dominant, this year it has redesigned them with the presence of gray and white tones. It also adds small details that make it easier for the consumer to use, such as the sticker on the wet/dry maps that allows you to distinguish much better which mode you are riding the bike in.
The 2017 Sherco ST continues to be equipped with the
Dunlop D803GP
tires that are giving such good results in the previous model.

OPTIMIZING YOUR MECHANICS

In this area, it receives a complete improvement of the exhaust system, providing greater durability and performance at low revs. In addition, the gear selector is reinforced, the kickstarter mount has been improved and it receives a new protective skid from the chassis.

In terms of electronics, the reduced box of the CDI that the brand already launched with the 2016 Factory is maintained, also receiving new adjustments at the programming level.
Mechanically, the 2017 Sherco ST is available in 125, 250 and 300cc 2-stroke engines.

THE STAR OF 2017: THE DIAPHRAGM CLUTCH

The jewel in the crown in this new range is the diaphragm clutch, a component that most of its rivals already enjoy and an improvement that is dynamically appreciated from the first moment you get behind the controls of the bike. With the previous clutch it was necessary to “detach” it to prevent it from dragging in the cold, something that does not happen now.
Once the drive has started, we will notice a totally different clutch (compared to previous Sherco models) since it has significantly improved its feel and feel, both in moments of low demand, which allows us to dose the gas correctly and precisely, and in others of high demand, which will better resist high revolutions and we can continue to rely on its precision and reliability.

Another new feature that will allow us to improve our experience is the new clutch pusher. The clutch pump is new and it is very important that we remember that it must be filled with mineral oil, as the manufacturers indicate on the cover of the pump, we can no longer fill it with the DOT 4 that we used for the previous models.
As soon as we get in, we can see an improvement in the front brake and the pump of this has also been renewed, thus carrying both pumps of the latest model manufactured by the prestigious brand Braktec. With a small detail that will facilitate the placement and installation of both, the flanges now have a single screw, which at the time of placing the pumps with the appropriate inclination is quite appreciated.

CONCLUSIONS

Overall, the 2017 Sherco receives few changes, most of them imperceptible to the naked eye, but they are probably more important than the last few years. The successful transition from the fuel tank to the front, together with the new geometries of the frame, a very full engine from low revs and a clutch that allows the power to be dosed more precisely, we can say that the evolution of the new range is a success.
The 2017 Sherco maintains its essence as a popular motorcycle, easy to ride, affordable for practically all levels and with an aesthetic that does not disappoint. The proliferation of new brands that directly rival Sherco for the concept of their models, such as Gas Gas or TRS, increases the demand for improvements and performance levels for all.

We must not forget the Scorpa, with a concept practically identical to the Sherco (they share a factory), and which has paved the way in the evolution of the new chassis incorporated by the Sherco 2017.
The price of the 2017 Sherco ST is €6,499 for the ST 300, €6,299 for the ST 250 and €5,875 for the ST 125.
