It’s been more than three decades since Bultaco shut down its assembly lines, but the legend lives on, implicitly, at Sherco.
Between the two, we experienced a turning point at the end of the 90s, when Bultaco once again showed off its mythical rampant toe on a trial bike, although in this case on a completely different concept.
However, patent problems – a Japanese brand produces a line of tires with that name – forced the name of its model to be changed.
Sherco (an acronym for SHERpa and COmpany) would be the name chosen and its creators Jacques Coll & Paxau.
From that moment on, Sherco’s positioning has maintained the same patterns: to offer a popular bike, easy to ride, light, powerful and innovative.
NEW STAGE OF SHERCO IN 1998
The company was founded in 1998, and currently has two production plants, one in Caldes de Montbui, Spain, about 30 kilometers north of Barcelona, where the Trial bikes are manufactured, and a second in Nimes, France, where the production of the Enduro models is located.
Cabestany has been riding and collaborating in the evolution of the Sherco since 2005The original chassis of the first Sherco was not modified until 2006, seven years after its conception, and the engine did not really undergo a drastic structural change until 2010.
Sherco has also opted for 4-stroke engines, even going so far as to practically abandon its flagship 2-stroke model in competition and put the Sherco 3.2 4T in the hands of its main driver, Albert Cabestany.
Throughout its history, Sherco has also launched limited editions, such as the “Cabestany Replica” or the Sherco R, in order to satisfy the most demanding riders and offer a weighty alternative to its main rival, Gas Gas, which has been launching the “Raga Replica” on the market since 2003.
