Laia wins her 12th women’s world title

laia_12tituloThe Spanish multiple champion extends her legend by winning the Swiss Women’s Trial GP despite running with pain in her injured foot. This is the second title of the year for the KH-7 driver, after winning the women’s trophy of the Dakar Rally last January.

He has raced in pain, not being in top shape and hardly riding a bike in the two and a half months since he fractured his right toe at the Italian Enduro GP. Laia Sanz had to defend her long reign in the women’s trial, and she did it bravely, in the rain and showing that spirit of self-improvement and sacrifice that has made her the best motorcycle rider of all time.

Laia won today at the Swiss Trial Grand Prix, held in Tramelan, the third round of the world championship and her twelfth crown, a figure that no woman has achieved in the history of motorcycling. In fact, since the world championship of this specialty was established, only in 2007 did it miss out on the championship trophy. This time it was enough for him to win all three races so far, and with two more to go, since the regulations of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme this year establish that only the three best results are taken into account. With 44 penalty points, Laia was once again the best today after beating the British Emma Bristow and Rebekah Cook, who scored 51 and 60 points, respectively.

Although his winning streak is spectacular, achieving this new success “has been more complicated than people can imagine,”

he warns. “After the Dakar I had a knee injury that prevented me from training and adapting quickly to the new bike, after the move from Honda to Gas Gas. Then, with the broken toe, I almost couldn’t touch the bike for a long time. Today I made a lot of mistakes, I felt more tired than usual and it was very difficult for me to win. The trial was complicated because it was held in the rain and it was all very slippery… In addition, my finger hurt and at times I even got dizzy. It wasn’t an easy day, but the best thing is that I won and took the title, something that always brings a lot of joy. Without a doubt it has been the most complicated world championship I have won and I have to thank the whole team for their support, my backpackers, my family, friends and doctors Cuscó and Cugat, who have taken great care of me and have done everything possible so that I could arrive on time for this race”Explains.

For Laia Sanz, this is her second win of the season after winning the women’s category in the 2012 Dakar Rally. The dream of winning the poker of titles vanished a few weeks ago when he had to give up competing in the last two rounds of the European Trial Championship, as he was still convalescing from his foot injury. However, the Catalan can still make history and achieve the treble, if she manages to win the women’s enduro world championship, which she leads. If it becomes a reality, he would be the first person (man or woman) to win the Dakar and the trial and enduro world championships. We’ll find out more on October 20 and 21 at the French Enduro Grand Prix.

3. Sandra Gomez, 43 points

Sandra Gómez. Day 1: “It wasn’t a great race, we started very well until zone 7 when I missed a few sections. I tried to ride as I know how, but the truth is that this muddy and rainy terrain has not gone very well for me. I knew I would find something like this but in Spain we haven’t seen rain for a long time and we din to do trials in the wet. Tomorrow I’m going to give it my all, there’s still a long way to go and the trials are very long. Congratulations to Laia, who is still unrivalled. It’s a machine.”

Sandra Gómez. Day 2: “It wasn’t an easy race, it didn’t rain but the terrain was equally muddy. The truth is that I have done some very good things, but some things that are too bad. It was a trial with English terrain, it’s incredible how they go around here! It’s not that luck has smiled on me one bit, either. Well, in short, a weekend with two fifths, I’m not very happy, I think I can be higher and I want to be, I’m going to learn from the mistakes made and this Friday give everything to be there.”
