The 2022 TrialGP Women’s World Championship has been decided in favour of Emma Bristow, who adds her eighth Trial World Champion title and returns to the top of the podium after Laia Sanz’s 2021 title.
Emma Bristow won her first world title in 2014 and until 2020 she managed to keep the crown uninterruptedly. Laia Sanz’s return to competition in 2021 decided the title in favour of the Spanish rider, with Emma being runner-up in the world championship.
In 2022, without Laia Sanz, the fight was going to be between Emma Bristow, the big favourite, and Berta Abellán, who has gradually been getting closer to the leading records. Not surprisingly, in 2022 Berta has achieved a total of two victories, intimidating Emma in the final stretch of the season. However, the women’s world championship arrived in Italy practically decided, since Berta only had to win both days and hope for a major mistake from her rival, something unlikely given the consistency of the British rider.
In any case, both riders have shown a great level, with Emma Bristow being one step ahead and retaking the crown. That’s eight world titles and an absolutely fantastic track record.
