Almost 300 riders have taken to the podium in Fort William to take part in a new edition of the legendary Scottish Six Days Trial. There are six long days ahead of us through beautiful Scottish landscapes that will host some thirty demanding areas dominated by water and mud.
Maximum expectation for the arrival of Vertigo with two favourites for victory: Lampkin and Dabill. After a modest start to the season for the new bike, the SSDTs will be a test of reliability and the challenge of winning the first major title for the Spanish brand.
DAY 1: BAKER RULES
The first day of competition went by without any major surprises for the favourites. Baker and Fry moved to the top of the table after completing all 30 zones of the day without penalty. Behind them, with a point, Danby, Dabill, McDonald and Lampkin.

It’s still too early to make a difference as we have 38 riders in a 10-point range, but any mistake can be very costly.
DAY 2: TIME PENALTIES CONDITION THE RACE
The second day of competition is traditionally one of the toughest of the competition days. In this edition, however, the problems have manifested themselves in the form of time penalties, where more than 90% of the riders have added additional points on their cards that have even led to the exclusion of a good number of participants from the competition.

Dougie Lampkin lamented the events that have taken place on the second day: “It’s the first time I’ve taken a time penalty in the SSDTs”. On the other hand, it has been 8 extra points, while for another of the great favorites for victory, James Dabill, the penalty amounts to 33 points, which practically separates him from the conquest of a new title in the Scottish when the halfway point of the race has not even been reached.

This fact, caused by poor organizational planning, tarnishes the excellence that should reign in a centennial event, considered the Mecca of trial riders and where almost 300 riders meet annually after much sacrifice, preparation and enthusiasm.

The harshness and difficulty is not at odds with the common sense that should prevail in the organization. This is a trial race, not an extreme enduro race. However, the most benefited in the classification have been those who have not stopped to see the areas or have only stopped minimally.

Therefore, I turn over in the 2015 SSDT rankings. Now the new leader is Sam Haslam, with only four points to his credit, followed by Hemingway and Kendrew. To find the big favourites we have to go to eighth place occupied by Dougie Lampkin.

It was a good day for the Spanish riders, where we highlighted Gabriel Reyes, first in the national classification, followed by an important climb in positions for the veterans Carlos Casas and Diego Urreta.
