Marc Guash’s medical report

marc_guashMarc Guasch is progressing favourably from the injuries he suffered yesterday in a fall he suffered 15 kilometres (not 50 as initially noted) from the finish line of the eighth stage of the Dakar Rally.

The official pilot of the Gas Gas team is admitted to the Intermediate Treatment Unit of the Portada Clinic, in Antofagasta (Chile), where he will remain under observation for at least 72 hours
“to attend to any possible complications that may arise,”
according to the Medical Director of the center, Dr. Fernando Barriga.

The medical report to which we have had access indicates the following:

“The patient Marc Guasch, as a result of an accident suffered during his participation in the Dakar Rally, was admitted to the Portada Clinic yesterday, Monday, January 9, with thoracic trauma, left hemopneumothorax, left rib fractures (ribs 3 to 6) and splenic laceration. On the same day of admission, a surgical repair of the splenic lesion and the corresponding pleurotomy or drainage of the left hemopneumothorax were performed.”

At the moment, Marc Guasch is stable and evolving favourably, but “we have to
be aware that the patient has suffered a very strong trauma and we have to allow a prudent margin of time to pass
“, says Dr Barrgia.
“If the patient progresses favorably after 72 hours, the patient would be transferred to the ward. In any case, he would hardly be able to return to his country within a week,” he
concludes.
