Miquel Gelabert is provisional leader of the CET 2021 after the first scoring event was held in the Galician town of Arteixo.
Gelabert was not the best in terms of zone scoring, but he knew how to skilfully manage the novelties of the regulations, winning a narrow victory that was resolved in his favour after a three-way tie at zero points with Busto and Raga.
WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?
That’s exactly what fans and managers wondered after checking the online race results via the app. Accustomed to keeping track of the scores in the zone and the arrival deadlines, now it was time to do the math and calculate if it was more interesting to pass the zone or “chop it” and recover those points via bonus.
Let’s remember that the controversial rule is that each driver deducts one point from his card for every five minutes he arrives before his established time control. A rule that was applied for all categories, except for TR4 and Cadets.
The consequences began to be felt during the second lap, when truly aware of how the rule was being applied, they began to prioritize time over zones, fattening the partial seconds of the race enormously; something that is usually quite the opposite.

Miquel Gelabert knew how to manage the above circumstances perfectly. He completed the race in 2 hours and 47 minutes, 13 minutes less than Busto and 37 minutes behind Raga. These circumstances allowed the three drivers to obtain negative scores in the race, but as zero was the minimum, a triple tie was generated that was resolved in the previous order.
Behind, in fourth position, the local rider Gabriel Marcelli, followed by Arnau Farré who was the only rider able to improve on the second lap of the race. Behind, Aniol Gelabeert, Pablo Suárez and Gerard Trueba.
ERIC MIQUEL WINS IN TR2
In TR2, the reigning champion of the category: Eric Miquel wins. It was a very even race during the first lap with Sam Obradó, Alex Canales, Sergio Ribau, Martío Riobo and Gil Vila.
In the second round the cards changed completely and the qualifying dance began. Finally, five drivers with zero points and a new need for multiple tiebreakers.
On the podium were Sam Obradó and Alex Canales who accompanied Eric Miquel.
OTHER CATEGORIES
The great success of participation with 124 riders in the registers, has to do in large part with the effort that all the fans make to join the most prestigious national trial in the world.
They are, perhaps, the most affected by not being able to truly enjoy this race as they expected.
In TR3 we witnessed a technical tie between 7 riders, with victory for Sergio Moreno, followed by Jordi Sanjuan and Francesc Recio.
In TR4 the victory went to Héctor Gairin, followed by Joan Ricart and Marc Terricabras.
In Junior, also with seven riders tied, the victory went to David Fabián, accompanied on the podium by Oriol Giró and Adriá Mercadé.
In cadets there were no bonuses. The victory went to Nil Riera, the second position to Xurxo Neo and the third place to Miquel Alarcón. And in the cadet category, Jorge Redondo triumphed, followed by Joan Miquel García and Paulo Carvalho.
The next round of the Spanish Trial Championship will be held on June 26 and 27 in La Foz de Morcín, Asturias.
