Montesa dispenses with Alfredo Gómez for 2012

gomez_460_winDespite the proliferation of new Trial models, the fact that Gas Gas communicates its fantastic fiscal year, that we have the best riders and youth teams in the world, events continue to occur that do not meet a logical explanation. That a pilot consecrated as Alfredo Gómez, recently proclaimed Junior World Champion, has a 125 World Championship in his record and his debut in the absolute World Championship has been impeccable,
today he does not have a team or bike to face the 2012 season
is an aberration.

It is truly shocking that a young rider full of talent, passion and recognition, finds himself in this situation. Alfredo has only a few weeks to find a team or his season will be cut short, so from Trialworld we call for support for a rider who represents, along with others, the future of our sport.

We attach the letter from a close friend of Alfredo’s, Juan Luis López de la Torre, who was the first rider from the central area to compete in a round of the Trial World Championship.

“Alfredo is a trial professional, this means that he makes a living with it, he has no other source of income than the motorcycle, so he belonged to a company called Montesa that is the one that paid him, but not to save but so that it would not cost him money to go to the races.
This year he won the Junior World Championship and also in the last race they let him participate in the World Championship Senior and finished with a more than meritorious 7th place.

At the end of the championships he talks to them and they assure him that next season there will be no problems to continue, they even tell him that they will improve the situation he had until that moment, this makes Alfredo turn a deaf ear to other offers because he is a person who believes in the word.

On the morning of December 13, Montesa told him by phone that he was very sorry, but that next season he would be without a bike. Now it’s very difficult for Alfredo to get a bike because the teams are already made for next season, they’ve left him stranded, without a bike, without a team.

The prize that the FIM gives to the Junior World Champion is that he can participate in the Indoor Trial World Championship… And Alfredo without a bike.

And I still talk to him and the only thing he tells me is that he is very grateful for the efforts that Montesa has made during these years and that if he can, he will run the World Indoor Championship with Montesa paying for it out of his pocket, well, not out of his pocket, that of his parents who, as always, do the impossible so that their children can continue with their passion, his life; the trial.

I congratulate Alfredo for how he is, humble, always respectful of others and grateful, because even though he has been given a “” he will always be grateful.”

Juan Luis López de la Torre
