Stage 9: Laia improves on her own. Pº44

dakar_laia_etapa9The ninth stage of the Dakar was one of the hardest for Laia Sanz, both physically and psychologically, as the absence of her backpacker Marc Guash, who crashed in the previous stage, forced Laia to ride for more than 500 kilometres without references or help. At the end of the stage we received news that Marc had undergone emergency surgery with a strong blow to the thoracic area and with several broken ribs. He will remain in the ICU for another 72 hours and it is estimated that within two weeks he will be back in Spain.

From a sporting point of view, this stage has been very positive for Laia Sanz, as she said at the end of it: “Fantastic day today!! Everything has gone well!! 41st of the stage!! Thanks to tod@s for the interest!! A hug for Marc Guasch who is in the hospital.”

Laia crossed the finish line in 41st position, which allows her to continue climbing positions in the general classification, where she is already 44th.
