A frenetic 2020 Japanese Trial Championship concludes with Tomoyuki Ogawa as national champion.
The 2020 season has been, as in the rest of the world, conditioned by the severe restrictions caused by Covid-19. This fact forced the championship not to start on its natural date, but in September and with a calendar of only four races.
Honda vs Yamaha
The surprises did not end there, as the second scoring race had to be cancelled due to a typhoon, leaving a final calendar of only three races.
The last one was held at the Yuasa Trial Park located in Wakayama. The water, mud and forest sections, left a race wide open for the big favourites: the Yamaha squad with Nozaki and Kuroyama, and the Honda squad with Ogawa.
Nozaki himself was the winner of the opening race, while Kuroyama scored the second race and it was all at the expense of what happened in this final race.
On a very close day, Ogawa built up a one-point lead over Kuroyama, enough to clinch the race and the final title. This title is the eighth in a row for the Honda rider and the tenth of his career.
