Toni Bou announces that he will not race the Spanish Trial Championship

Toni Bou, the most successful rider in the history of trial, with eleven Spanish Championship titles to his credit, has announced that he will not participate in the
2020 edition of the National Trial
, which starts this coming Sunday in Lleida.

The reasons behind this decision, which Bou says does not have to be final for the next few years, is to reserve himself physically for the Trial World Championships, both indoors and outdoors. In recent months Toni has suffered two back injuries and is not going through his best moment in terms of fitness for this reason.
For its part, the Montesa team will continue to move its entire competition structure to the Spanish Trial Championship, where one of its riders, Gabriel Marcelli, competes in the top category with a good chance of aspiring to the podium. Montesa will also provide service to its satellite structure, the Talent Repsol Team, which is present in different lower categories.

Toni Bou:

After winning 11 Spanish championships, I think the time has come to consider participating in this new season that will start this coming weekend. Although it’s hard for me to recognize it and the results say otherwise, my body is no longer what it was ten years ago and every time I have to take care of it to the maximum. That’s why, because I also need to prepare myself for the future.Especially for the big challenges, I have decided to prioritize my competition calendar to continue performing at the highest level. Thus, this season I will compete in the X-Trial and TrialGP World Championships and also, if I am called up for it, in the two national team competitions. I don’t close the door to CET definitively and I don’t rule out returning to an event that has given me so much joy. Thank you all for your support.
