The
2022 Trial World Championship
has held its fourth Grand Prix of the current campaign in the Belgian city of Combain au Pont, a venue that has already hosted world championship events before.
In the context of a race demanding in terms of the hardness of the course, with areas of long slopes, low traction, roots and many traps, a trial with high scores was expected, especially concentrated in four or five areas of the course, which would be key to aspire to the places of honor.
Aware of Toni Bou's consistency, only an injury or dramatic situation could keep the rider away from a new world title, as his rival, Jaime Busto, does not depend on himself and winning the rest of the races would not mathematically give him the ability to cut enough points in the general classification.
BUSTO DIDN'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITY
For Jaime Busto, the only rider capable of stopping Toni Bou in the fight for the title, it was essential to deduct points from his rival, and with that mentality he started the race, shining on the first lap. However, the Biscayan did not manage to keep up the pace in the second pass through the zones, especially in the second half of the course, fattening his card and allowing a finer and riskier Toni Bou to turn the result around, adding a very important victory that places him even more in the lead, with 26 points away from Busto.
FAJARDO, SPECTACULAR
If in 2021 Jeroni Fajardo was practically missing, and 2022 started frankly badly at the Spanish GP, the reality is that the change of chip has been radical since then. In Belgium he added his third podium of the season and that has allowed him to climb to third position overall, beating a discreet Adam Raga, who was fifth and is having one of the most irregular seasons in memory for the Tarragona rider.
Fourth was Gabriel Marcelli, already recovered from his injuries, who is starting to get the feeling of the bike and the team, signing his best result of the season. Fujinami, his manager, wants to see him on the podium before the end of the season: “Gabriel must be very proud and with his head held high, as in this championship everything is very tight and, although he is still seventh overall, he must continue to fight in the three remaining races to continue climbing positions. We hope that Toni and Gabri can get on the podium at the next race in Cahors.”
Sixth place for Matteo Grattarola, followed by Casales, Bincaz and the Gelabert brothers (Miquel and Aniol). Discrete results for the GASGAS riders, who occupy sixth and tenth positions in the overall standings.
