Toni Bou wins in Madrid and is 2023 X-Trial World Champion

The 2023 X-Trial World Championship has concluded with the celebration of the X-Trial in Madrid, which has left us with a new victory and consequently the world title for Toni Bou, who already has 17 indoor crowns and another 17 outdoors. In total, with 34 world titles, he is crowned the rider with the best track record in the history of motorcycling.

Toni Bou needed a fourth place to mathematically win the title, but he went all out, to celebrate the title the way he likes: from the top of the podium. In total, 77 indoor victories in a total of 105 participations. Jaime Busto, who was fourth in Madrid, also managed to secure the second final position in the championship.

Fourth win of the season for Toni Bou

The victory in Madrid was decided in the last half meter of the last section of the race. Marcelli started the final with three zeros in a row, while Bou took a five in the second zone to pass the next three cleanly and see his teammate score a five in the fourth. They have reached the last section tied. Bou did it first and took three points, and then Marcelli reached the last metre with the same penalty but failed at the end and scored a five.

This was the outcome of the test. The title was already secured by Toni Bou having qualified for the final while Jaime Busto (GasGas), his only rival in the fight for number 1, was out of it by five points. Toby Martyn made it to the final, completing the trio of Montesas on the podium with a very consistent performance that took him to third place and the second place of his career.

A first round with 15 points has left Adam Raga (TRRS) out of the final despite tying 6-6 with Bou in the second. For his part, Aniol Gelabert (Beta) started well but faded a little in the second round to finish sixth ahead of Bincaz (Sherco), Grattarola (Beta) and Haga (GasGas).

CAREER STATEMENTS

toni bou (P1)"It has been a fantastic night because together with Gabriel we have starred in a spectacular final, I have been the best in each of the 3 rounds of the race and I have achieved a new title of X-Trial World Champion in the best possible way, winning. I'm very competitive and I wanted to secure the title with a victory that was really complicated, especially from the second section of the final where I made a mistake that, together with the great performance of my teammate, made me fight until the last inch of the race."

GABRIEL MARCELLI (P2)"I had a chance to win tonight until the last metre of the last section and together with Toni we starred in a vibrant final that ended in a double that is, in addition to his title of World Champion, the best news for the team. I'm still consistent on the podium. I'm already three runners-up and this is the step forward I've taken this season."

TOBY MARTYN (P3)"I'm super happy and I have no words. I was very consistent throughout the night and the reward was my second podium in the X-Trial World Championship. The truth is that I've been training a lot and we've also made some changes to the bike that have worked well. It's a great night."
