First Steps, by Jordi Pascuet
“In the next chapters we are going to learn basic and advanced concepts of the technique necessary to learn and evolve your level of Trial. As you can see, we are going to start from the most basic level, so that all those who are starting out can take advantage of these guidelines and those with a higher level can detect possible failures or manias that can slow down their progression.
Trialworld has prepared a first chapter where it helps you to know the fundamental parts of the bike well, so we will focus on certain points already mentioned, but on which it is essential to emphasize well.”
Let’s start with the kit
:
“This must be in accordance with the specialty we practice, that is, in principle you can take advantage of few garments from other disciplines, although at first glance they may seem similar.”
“The helmet It must be open and light, always well fastened to prevent it from swinging over our head in strong receptions. There are several models on the market, so it is highly advisable that we always try on the helmet first before buying it, in order to ensure its correct fit. A larger-than-normal helmet is not a symbol of comfort, but of insecurity, so it’s better to get used to a tight-fitting helmet, because in the long run you’ll appreciate it.”
“The boots, obviously from Trial. The ones used in Enduro or Motocross are much stiffer, with hardly any mobility, and that would make us lose both sensitivity and the mobility that this discipline requires. You must make sure that the sole is not smooth, but rough, in order to guarantee a correct fixation even in adverse conditions. If your boots have worn soles, you have to think about replacing the sole, or directly replacing the boots.”
“The gloves also need to be specific. At first glance they are very
and thin, almost unprotected, in order to guarantee maximum feel to the rider in all circumstances. In Trial, the movement of the hands is very continuous and requires precision, so excessive thickness or low mobility is also a negative factor in feeling comfortable at the controls of a trial bike.”
” Pants/t-shirt or jumpsuit. It is not really important to choose one of them, since it is a matter of taste and aesthetics to use one or the other. It is important to make sure that they allow us to move correctly and have protection in the knee area, which is perhaps where we can receive the most blows in the event of a fall. If you choose to use external protection, it is also valid, although always properly fastened and placed with the same purpose as we have mentioned before: not to hinder the mobility of the joint or our ability to react.”
