Ulf Karlson passes away

Legendary Swedish driver Ulf Karlson passed away today after a long illness. Karlson was World Champion with
Montesa
in 1980 and a major contender for the title for nine years, from 1974 to 1982.
He also won three Scandinavian championships (1972, 1982 and 1983) as well as eight consecutive Swedish championships (1976 to 1983), all with Montesa.
Karlson burst onto the scene in 1970 and soon moved to the official Montesa team. In the summer of 1975 Montesa launched a special version of its popular Cota 247, called VUK (Ulf Karlson Version) in honour of the Swedish rider and remembering his first victory with the brand in 1974. This version incorporated great technical improvements and was the last version of the Montesa Cota 247, giving way to the Montesa Cota 348.
Consistency was his main ally to achieve the long-awaited 1980 World Championship, thus writing his name among the most relevant riders in the history of trial. Rest in peace, Ulf.
