Yamaha TY 250 1973 Competition Spec

The TY series of trial models created by Yamaha have always had a great personality and style. In this case we can see the 1973 Yamaha TY 250 with which Haruo Kimura won the first Japanese Trial Championship in 1973.
The championship was held against the backdrop of a growing passion and popularity of trial in Japan, specifically in the town of Hayatogawa, where 126 riders participated.
This is a racing variant, although it retains the air-cooled 246 cc two-stroke engine with a five-speed gearbox.

ON THE ORIGINS OF THE YAMAHA TY TRIAL BIKE

The Yamaha TY was born at the end of 1972, when C. Rayer received the first factory prototype built expressly for him. At the same time, a second unit was created for the illustrious Mick Andrews, with the idea of having a great driver within the team with whom to evolve the prototype and also win races to increase the relevance of the brand in this market.
In fact, Mick Andrews himself tested a 360 cm³ prototype in 1973 before returning to the original 246 cm³. The racing prototype has already managed to win a European Championship race in France, a working basis that served to improve the production model in terms of suspension, driving position and gear ratio. Thus, the Yamaha TY 250 was ready for the summer of 1973.
